John Dinglers solo art show May 23, 2015 Saturday night 6pm

Check out this perfect blend of art, humor and activism.

“The quirky and provocative artist John Dingler—well known for his critical and socially themed paintings and sculptures”—is having his first solo exhibition titled UFO Girl at Cause Art Gallery, Chinatown Los Angeles, featuring paintings and videos.

Duration:  Sat. May 23 to Sat. June 20, 2015.

Reception: Sat. May 23, 2015, from 6:00 to 11:00 PM.

Artist talk: 7:00PM.

Each painting is dominated by large, bold headlines and designs that blaze with vibrant juxtapositions of high key colors, gradients covered with bold patterns of concentric lines, while splashes of dots of different sizes representing planets are tantalizing backdrops to extraterrestrial attack ships.

UFO Girl is a story about a being we never see; We know her character by the headlines, her valedictions, and by schematic signifiers of outer space objects. It is told in serial form through the benign visitor’s light-hearted, at first, valedictions about visiting Earth from Zeta Reticuli. In the later images, her responses mature; They are about overcoming difficulties with Earth’s polarizing inhabitants currently in the news. Dingler says, “After my super serious Ten Prosecuted Whistleblowers, I did indeed intend that this series be strictly fun, lighthearted, but things changed.”

She finds her strength in one of the last pieces, “The T.P.P. would sue our democratic fleet. No! My weapons will destroy big gub’mnt’s plan. Your patriotic UFO Girl

According to Jonathan Green, Director of the UC Riverside ArtsBLOCK, “He has also been quietly making short films that he calls moviettes. These alternately politically biting and lyrically beautiful short pieces will now be presented for only the second time as an extended meditation on the urban scene. A flâneur with a camera, Dingler haunts on local streets finding splendor and oddity, even encouraging a police chief  to suggest a conceptual art installation: Tiny Tents on the Mall. If you love your neighborhood but want an unorthodox view of city life, this breezy hour long feature is not to be missed.”
